I walked into the doctor's office knowing that my blood pressure was still high. I was 37 weeks and 1 day pregnant, it was January 3, 2014. It was my 26th birthday.
I was beyond nervous. I just had a feeling that my doctor was going to tell me that "today was the day".
I signed in like I was supposed to, and they ushered me on back. The nurse had me take a seat, and then placed the blood pressure cuff on my right arm. I can't remember the exact numbers, but it was definitely still high.
The nurse asked me to wait just a minute while she went and talked with my doctor.
A few minutes passed before my doctor walked over. Her face said it all. Today was the day.
"Hi, Jessica. How are you feeling today?", she asked, glancing at the computer. "I'm ok. I have a headache, but I'm ok.", I replied, fiddling with my hands. "Well,", she said, leaning back on the wall, "it looks like we're going to have to have a baby today! Unfortunately, you're not favorable for a VBAC, so it's in your best interest if we do a c-section." I just nodded my head. "Um..you know today's my birthday, right?", I ask, kind of freaking out inside. "Oh my god, it is, isn't it?!", she said hugging me, "happy birthday!!"
I was then instructed to go home, get my bags, and head up to the hospital.
As I walked into the lobby, I looked at my husband and said, "We're having a baby!" He was shocked. He wasn't expecting it. I made it out to the parking lot before the tears started flowing. I called my mom freaking out. She promised she'd get there, some way some how.
I was beyond nervous. I was terrified. My first c-section was a horrible experience. I felt the doctor cut me (different doctor), and the anesthesiologist knocked me out. I was so scared it would happen again.
Once we were at the hospital, I explained to them why I was scared. The anesthesiologist assured me that he would make sure I was numb.
And that he did!
The doctor clamps these things into your stomach to make sure you're numb, and I didn't even know they did it. All I felt was them moving me side to side. Then once they had me cut open, they had to press the top of my stomach to help her to come down, and I felt pressure in my chest from it. But I can honestly say none of it hurt this time!
As she pulled her out and suctioned her, I heard a cry! My doctor ran her around to my side to show her to me! I turned into a blubbering mess.
At 5:50pm, January 3, 2014, on my 26th birthday, our lives changed forever!
The husband became the father of 2 girls!
I became the mother of 2 girls!
My (oldest) daughter became a big sister!
It was truly magical!
I received the most precious birthday gift anyone could ever ask for!
Every birthday from that moment on out will be more magical than any before it!
I will forever treasure that remarkably special moment!!
